'Spider-Man: Homecoming' is the sixth Spider-Man film and second reboot within 2 decades. This new incarnation of Spider-Man stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker as he tries to balance his life as a high school student and being the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man while also trying to impress Tony Stark (Robert Downey. Jr) so that he could be a part of the Avengers. If you want to know how I feel about the previous Spider-Man films, I'll just put it simply: Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films, good (I thought Spiderman 3 was decent) and Marc Webb's Spider-Man films, not so much. Going into this new Spider-Man I honestly didn't know what to expect, even though he made a great debut in 'Captain America Civil War' (2016). Would we be seeing the same old origin story all over again or are we getting a fresh new take on the titular web-slinger? I can gladly say, this is the best Spider-Man film I've seen since Spiderman 2 (2004).

What this new Spider-Man film has going over the last few films is that it has a huge emphasis on trying to be a surprisingly well crafted high school film as much as a superhero film. Would I say it's as good as Spiderman 2? I'd say yes. In fact this does borrow a lot of story elements from Spiderman 2 while being a Spiderman film that has its own identity because like that film you see more of Peter Parker rather than Spiderman. When you see Spiderman being Spiderman in the action sequences, it's genuinely fun and exciting and so are scene when he's just being Peter Parker. When you see him having a crush on girl or dealing with high school curriculum activities, it's definitely gravitating as most likely everyone is able to relate to Peter Parker in an emotional way. This leads me into Tom Holland who I can say is fantastic in this film. He's naive, shy and giddy at times as a high schooler would be. Even as Spiderman he's very heroic and well-mannered that makes him all the more likable and makes us root for him for 100% of the film. Did I also mention this films is very funny? In my opinion is the most hilarious superhero film I've seen since Deadpool (2016) throwing jokes and quips at almost every minute of film even to the last second.

Standouts in this film is Michael Keaton as the villain of the movie Adrian Toomes otherwise known as the Vulture. This newest villain in the MCU is probably the most fleshed out villain since...ever. This villain by far the most grounded and timely as he was Salvage and Junk business owner who turns to arm trafficking after his company goes out of business. Pretty much like the majority of Spiderman villain he's someone who has a direct relationship with Peter Parker, so when there are scenes with just Peter Parker as Adrain Toomes together it makes it all the more white-knuckle intense which is broken off with well timed humor. Another standout would be a extended cameo of Robert Downey. Jr as Iron Man as he's only seen sparingly throughout the film. Every scene with his would automatically be entertaining (even when he's not physically there).

Issues that I can understand that other people especially those who are wholeheartedly close to the comics will find are the casting choices and roles of other Spiderman characters. To me that wasn't an issue, but I understand. Even if you are, you'd still have a great time with this film as it's always thrilling and funny. One smaller issue that I have is that the last main action sequence does feel like overload like those you'd see naturally in all superhero films, while refreshingly it doesn't have the 'End of the World' stakes that feels like its been done to death.

In conclusion, this newest Spiderman film boasts plenty of heart, laughs and action in order to be a successfully crowd pleasing. While some audiences may not like the idea of the tinkering of other major Spiderman characters, they still manage to be entertaining supporting characters on their own.

'Spider-Man: Homecoming' gets an A
