'Game Night' REVIEW: About as Fun as a Game Night should be, maybe even Twisted

'Game Night' is brought to us by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, the directors behind the awful Vacation (2015) which was a poor attempt at recapturing the hilarious sensation of the National Lampoon films. Now we have their second effort as director and I've got to say they've redeemed themselves and have given me the most rousing time at the theater in 2018.

The film stars Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams as Max and Annie, they are husband and wife and every week they would host a game night with their group of friends. On one particular game night Max's brother Brooks (played by Kyle Chandler) invites Max, Annie and their group of friends to his house and play what seemed at first a super realistic role-playing mystery, but maybe it could be all real.

I wasn't too excited for this movie partly because the directors brought us Vacation which was terrible and the trailers for this looked kind of terrible, but also intriguing. All in all, this film is tons of fun from start to finish. It's funny, exciting and surprising which I certainly wasn't expecting. Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams and their group of friends have excellent comedic chemistry which oozes off the screen and made me feel like I was on this crazy crime-filled night with them. It's paced really frantically and it never had a dull moment at all.

While I said it never had a dull moment, it does lead me into the gripes that I have with the film. It does have a very twisty plot which for me did have me lost at times. It does make you think hard for a moment, but there would always be a major laugh that makes you forget about the convoluted plot.

Overall, this film was loads of fun. It has an interesting story that made you feel like you are on this adventure with these group of funny characters. If you don't think too hard about the plot, you'd still have a great time.

'Game Night' gets a B+
